In Washington State, justice-involved individuals face mortality rates 3.5 times higher than the average citizen. Tragically, the majority of these deaths stem from overdose, suicide, and homicide. According to SAMSHA, gainful employment is pivotal for successful reentry. At Almosta Ranch Alpacas, we're resolute in meeting this critical need. Our clientele includes those in early substance use recovery, justice-involved individuals, and veterans. Remarkably, these demographics often intersect.
At Almosta Ranch Alpacas, we connect with clients either on the cusp of reentry or just after they've entered the community. Through collaborations with sober and reentry housing, vet centers, and other community resources, we create pathways for our clients. Here, they will engage in meaningful work and earn a wage. Under the guidance of local expert volunteers, they will gain hands-on experience in both agriculture and horticulture. From Farrier to vet tech, our clients will acquire a diverse skill set.
During the year long program, our clients will also participate in classroom-based learning. Here, they'll delve into essential life skills, resume building, interview techniques, ESL, literacy enhancement, permaculture and certificate programs through Yakima Valley Community College. It's a well-rounded, personalized curriculum designed to equip them for a successful transition back into the community.
In addition to offering employment opportunities, we provide an array of support services. These include case management, a monthly family day for family reunification, peer support, and valuable animal therapy. Our therapist ensures that emotional well-being is addressed comprehensively. We also extend practical assistance through a clothing closet and hygiene supplies. We believe that by providing these resources, we not only empower individuals but also cultivate an environment of dignity and self-respect.
